In a thermostatic expansion valve system, a receiver drier is located between the condenser and the evaporator. It acts as a storage volume for liquid refrigerant and also contains a filter and desiccant material.
A thermostatic expansion valve controls the amount of refrigerant entering the evaporator coils. It also causes a drop in pressure to take place without causing a change of state.
